Brianna Cohen

Dear First Grade Families,

As September quickly approaches, I am excited to meet you all in the weeks to come as your child’s first grade teacher!  I look forward to getting to know each of my students and their families. My name is Brianna Cohen, and I have been working within the district as a translator and teacher for the past four years. Before relocating to Sag Harbor, I lived and taught in Burlington, Vermont and New York City, where I received my Master’s Degree in childhood education at Hunter College. I have recently completed an additional certification program for Teaching English as a Second Language through Molloy College, here in Long Island. I hope to pass on my enthusiasm for lifelong learning to my students. We have a busy year ahead of us in first grade, as students become more independent readers, descriptive writers, curious mathematicians, and creative artists!

Although I was raised in a rural town in upstate New York, Sag Harbor was always a special place for me growing up. Holidays and vacations with my family were spent watching sunsets at Long Beach, fishing off of the wharf, and walking in the annual Halloween parade. I am thrilled to continue experiencing the incredible community here in Sag Harbor full time, especially at the elementary school.

When I am not teaching, I love spending time being active outdoors. Hiking, kayaking, and paddle boarding with my dog are a few of my favorite pastimes. With a background in the arts, I also enjoy doing photography and art projects in my spare time. I hope to share my creative side in the classroom as well. I also have a love for food and a passion for cooking, especially with the incredible local produce of the east end.

I strongly believe in the importance of family involvement and open communication in my classroom. Please refer back to this website often for news and updates about our class.  I look forward to our year ahead in first grade, and I hope to see many of you in the upcoming weeks or at morning program this September.

Enjoy the rest of your summer,

Brianna Cohen
