Two Sag Harbor Elementary School fifth-graders are doing their part to help raise awareness about autism through a basketball pay-to-play fundraiser they launched in April.

Ethen Bechard and Will Schmidt are working together to raise money for the Flying Point Foundation for Autism by hosting student basketball tournaments in their school’s gymnasium during recess. To participate, students can donate $1 or more to partake in the three-on-three games.

The students launched the fundraiser after working closely with their school principal, Matt Malone.

“We wanted to do something to give back,” said Bechard.
