September

September 9th

Word:
Determination (noun)

Meaning:  to set a purpose to do something and work hard at it

Example: As I go on a learning journey this year, I have a determination this year to read at least 2 chapter books per month for the simple love of reading.  What will your determination be this school year? Synonym: resolution
September 16th
Idiom:
 "knuckle/buckle down"

Meaning:  to tackle a task with determination; get serious about something

Example: This year, in third grade, I'm really going to "buckle down" to learn my multiplication facts.
September 23rd

Idiom:
 "nose to the grindstone"

Meaning:  continuously work hard; apply yourself

Example: The start of a school year is a great time to make a promise that you'll keep your "nose to the grindstone" and focus on your studies.
